important swim team announcements
CONGRATS on the win last night, WW Waves! The final score was WW 454 – WR 419. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, as well, who made the meet possible. We really appreciate your participation.
Three important announcements:
1. Upcoming Meets:
Next week we have two meets – Shallowford Lakes @ Westwood on Tues June 14 and Westwood @ Forsyth Country Club on Thurs June 16. Registration is open for both meets so please declare your swimmer’s/swimmers’ intent for each meet (attending or not attending) before the deadline of Sunday June 12 at 11 am. This is the registration deadline for both meets. Two things to note:
-We will not be adding swimmers to the meet after the deadline has passed, as this creates a lot of extra work for coaches and a few parent volunteers. Signing up is easy, so please log on now and declare your swimmer's intent.
-Declaring for a meet is different from swim team registration. Register your swimmer for swim team only once. You need to declare “attending” or “not attending” for each swim meet. Follow these steps:
Login to the Westwood swimtopia page at https://westwood.swimtopia.com/. From the homepage: Hover over “Meets and Events” (towards the top of the page) and then choose “Signup Calendar” from the dropdown menu. Click on the green button labelled “Meet Entry.” Your swimmer(s) names should appear. Click on the grey “edit” button (scroll down if you don’t see it), then choose “attending this meet” or “not attending this meet” from the dropdown menu to the right of the swimmer’s name. Below your swimmer’s name use the dropdown menu to let us know if your swimmer is available for all relays. If you have comments for the coaches please type them in the comment box. Then click “save” at the bottom of the screen.
You can also sign up for volunteer jobs here. Click on the “sign up for job shifts” grey button then click on “sign up for jobs.” To choose a job and shift click on the small, white box on the left side, and then click on the “save assignments” button at the bottom of the page.
If you need further help using Swimtopia, just ask! Send an email to us at [email protected].
2. Technique of the Week: Breaststroke!
Breaststroke is the hardest stroke to do well, especially for younger swimmers, so it is not surprising that we had a lot of disqualifications in breaststroke last night. Please watch this video with your swimmer and help them choose at least one aspect of breaststroke to work on:

This is also a great resource – the 5 biggest mistakes in breaststroke: https://blog.myswimpro.com/2021/02/10/the-5-most-common-breaststroke-mistakes-swimmers-make/.
And for inspiration – an analysis of Adam Peaty’s perfect breaststroke technique:

(Adam Peaty is a double individual Olympic champion and the current world record holder in the 100m breaststroke.)
This Saturday’s stroke clinic will focus on breaststroke, as well – hope to see many of you there! You can register via the club calendar.
